The presentation will discuss the options available to decarbonize floating oil & gas facilities and will focus on large capacity FPSO and FLNG vessels. These vessels have multiple sources of environmental emissions. Technology exists to significantly reduce or eliminate these, however, until recently, few projects have gone beyond the minimum level needed to comply with local regulations. Pressure is now mounting to reduce emissions further for several reasons, including stakeholder ESG pressure and the ability to attract project financing. The presentation will firstly use a typical Reference Case FPSO project to illustrate the level of decarbonization possible by adopting incremental steps to reduce emissions. This will also consider the maturity of the required technology, to ensure that a balance is maintained for project risk. Secondly, this will be expanded to a Reference Case FLNG, highlighting the synergies and the primary areas of difference between this and the FPSO project, in terms of decarbonization. The presentation will conclude with the recommended focus areas to accelerate the decarbonization of these floating facilities.
